Commentary on IT Contract - Singapore 2018 

2018 is predicted to be a good year following a good performance in 2017. We have seen tremendous growth and doubled up the number of our existing contractors compared to 2016.

The hottest areas in tech contracting in 2018 are digital transformation, cloud and DevOps. There will also be a focus on the Internet of Things (IoT).

Companies are now requiring newer skills capable of revolutionising the software stack, the usual developer and operator role is slowly diminishing. Newer skills that require in-depth DevOps skills are in demand, but with government regulations it’s becoming more and more difficult for candidates to move into a new role.

How companies consume IT is different now from traditional ways of operations. Companies now require more architects that are capable of hybrid roles which used to silo’ed roles that reduces the requirement from three different roles to one.

One major challenge is how some job seekers, focussing on career progression, prefer working in big tech companies like Google, Amazon and Facebook etc. rather than financial services companies as they have started outsourcing/ off shoring etc.
